Wynand van der Walt has more than 25 years’ experience in the Library & Information provisioning sector, mostly within the Higher Education environment in South Africa. Wynand is currently the Head Librarian: Technical Services at Rhodes University Library, South Africa, and holds a Masters in IT from the University of Pretoria. His areas of expertise include leadership for innovation, Open Access, digitization and digital curation, the semantic web and how it affects library-related technologies, including how these technologies support the research life-cycle and information dissemination. Wynand also provides technical support for the editorial team of the South African Journal of Library Science (SAJLIS) and African Music: Journal of the International Library of African Music (AM) through the use of open publishing platforms. Wynand currently serves as a trustee of the South East Academic Libraries System (SEALS Consortium); executive member of the Network of Data & Information Curation Communities (NeDICC); the Library and Information Association of South Africa (LIASA); and a member of the WikimediaZA Board and the South African Creative Commons Chapter.
